Chuck Scaravelli

Chuck Scaravelli is the creator and
visionary of Loft Home Builders. Loft Homes take older homes and
transform them for the way people live today. The design of the Loft
Home is based on the philosophy of openness, freedom, nature and
simplicity. Older homes were built with high quality materials that
include hardwood floors. The final product incorporates much of the
current fabric and materials. The design utilizes the urban environment
as an inspiration and asset. Every Loft Home is different with features
that include removing walls, exposing ceilings and beams and
refurbishing the floors. What was once a tired undesirable home, is
transformed into a desirable, high quality, work of art.
Chuck started his real estate
career in the wine business! It began with his father, Sam Scaravelli,
introducing Lambrusco (a sweet wine) to the United States, thus changing
Americans’ understanding of wine. Mr. Scaravelli made history by selling
more wine than anyone had ever sold anywhere in the world. The business
growth led to the need for a warehouse site. Seeking wines to market
caused the Scaravellis to travel and see developments and trends around
the world. The Scaravellis used that knowledge and followed their
instincts and purchased undesirable property in downtown Cleveland In
1982 along the Cuyahoga River.
That purchase led to an empiric
education in real estate development that included building a marina,
purchasing more land along the river, buying railroad bridges, selling
land, purchasing dilapidated historic buildings and converting them to
housing. People did not live in Downtown Cleveland at the time. In fact,
people rarely came to Downtown Cleveland. The buildings Scaravelli
purchased included the Perry Payne Building, the first skyscraper in
Ohio, and the Otis Terminal Building, the largest warehouse in the city
(650,000 sq. ft.). Scaravelli believed people would desire to live
downtown in these buildings. Their instinct was right and these
developments were successful and provided the foundation for the current
explosive growth Cleveland is now experiencing.
Chuck followed his instinct again
and saw an opportunity to transform abandoned homes slated for
demolition into Loft Homes. Those homes are in older neighborhoods that
had become undesirable and where growth had ceased. The instinct was
confirmed with our first Loft Home move-in, a 31 year old single
business woman.
