Christmas Parade
Nov 30, 2002
|
Once again, Newf Neighborhood had great
weather. Not until the parade was over did it start the freezing rain,
the beginning of the snow storm! Our boombox did not work, but... the
group in front of us was playing "Who Let The Dogs Out" and the
group behind us was playing the tape of Doggy Christmas Songs, how much
better can it get!!!!! The Neighbors worked diligently in decorating
the float very early in the morning, Danielle & Emily were the official
"Candy Tossers" and Annie & Pat enjoyed the comfortable ride
on the float!!!

Woolly
Bear Parade
Oct 13, 2002

|
What a
beautiful day we had... 55 deg. and partly sunny!!!! The newfs were
a hit with their orange boa feathers wrapped around their bellies along
with orange, black and gold antennas!!!! And handing out dog
biscuits instead of candy went over very well with the spectators.
So many people said that the Newfs got their vote for best woolly bear
costume, and guess what...?
Congratulations
Neighborhood Newfies!!!
Newf
Neighborhood got a trophy!!!! It is a commemorative one celebrating
the 30th Woolly Bear Festival and Parade! This beautiful gold and
orange with Italian marble base trophy will be on display at all our
events!

RH Family
Day
July 21, 2002
|
The weather was perfect for a picnic and a parade. We had
curb side shade
for the parade and afterwards took a tour of the newly built jail house
(which was nicely air conditioned). A lot of people stopped by to pet the
dogs and ask questions about them, and Pebbles, Dino and Sidavia were more
than happy with the attention. Gina had a paw print stamp and was stamping
the kids that were walking by, I don't know who was having more fun. (just
so you know Gina.. it took me two days to scrub the one paw print off..)
After lunch we took the dogs for a walk and then had the
"kiddy" pool
to ourselves for a little while.

Island
Hopping Cruise
Put-In-Bay June 22, 2002

|
What a wonderful turnout for the Island Cruise
this past Saturday! With the weather cooperating once again for the
'hood, we all enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Because it was such a
spectacular event, I've been asked to put this together as an annual
event.
Friday night we were extended some very
special service on the patio at Damon's. With a spectacular view of
Sandusky and Cedar Point, we were able to take in the extravagant laser
show and fireworks display in addition to the beautiful sunset. The
manager was our waitress and made sure we had the complete menu available
to us that is usually only available to the upper enclosed dining room,
and the bartender made sure our newfies always had enough water and ice.
With 2 landseers in attendance we've decided we need T-shirts the say,
"They ain't no saint" on the front, and on the back, "...
and neither are we", in response to, as you can guess, "Are
those St. Bernards"?
To start the day off, we enjoyed Mimosas and
having the opportunity to meet everyone and talk about the horrendous
storm the day before. The captain and employees of the Goodtime were
very gracious and enjoyed the company of our Newfs. One of the
neighbors even had their parents come up from W Virginia to baby-sit so
they could attend this event.
At Kelley's Island we enjoyed a Tram tour of
the island and visited the longest Glacier in the world at 3-1/2 miles
long. Of course we all enjoyed ice cream and had to do some shopping
at the island stores as well! We had to battle with the newfies for
who got the seats and who ended up on the floor of the tram train (lol).
Arriving at Put-In-Bay Island, what a site to
see so many Newfs walking off the dock. Was it Dog Fest? And,
we were greeted by a, what was it, a Newf, no, a golden retriever, but it
had the coat of a Newf??? We all had to stop and stare at this
4-legged creature across the street as we couldn't believe our eyes!!!
There stood Cheryl's beautiful golden retriever in a home-made Newf
costume (lol). What a site that was. Very imaginative on
Cheryl's part and they joined us for the rest of the day so Cheryl could
get her dose of Newfies. Cheryl and DH were previously owned by a
Newf and the 'hood was pleased to welcome them!
At The Boardwalk, we all enjoyed a variety of
Island specialty refreshments (pina coladas, strawberry daiquiris,
margaritas, beer) and food (lobster bisque, shrimp, oysters, sandwiches).
I think the reason everyone wants to come back was for the Lobster Bisque
in the bread bowl. The food was spectacular and we had a great
location on the patio with huge umbrellas to provide us the shade we
needed. The restaurant was kind enough to provide several
"buckets" of water for our thirsty Newfs and they got all the
belly rubs they could ask for!!
A few of the neighbors took advantage of the
beautiful park for a nap on the benches, taking in the enormous fountain
and the people passing by with the usual, "What is that"?
or "Look at the beautiful dogs", or "Can I pet them"?
Some neighbors went to the beach at Perry's Monument for a swim with their
Newfs and relief from the hot day of summer. Others enjoyed a ride
on the wooden-horse carousel while others opted for a golf cart touring
the Island. But I think everyone got a chance to taste the wonderful
home-made ice cream, including our Newfies. With live music
entertaining you at every establishment, we were able to take in all the
patios with people dancing away and enjoying the wonderful sunny day.
By the time the boat was ready to depart, we
certainly all were too!!
On the boat back to the mainland we had
a contest for the newf who climbed up and down the stairway the best.
Well, I must say it was certainly a difficult decision for everyone to
vote on. Bo decided he would criss-cross up the stairs and Annie,
well... Larry went one way at the top and Annie went another, but Larry
didn't know it and we all just laughed up a storm. Lovely Violet was
the winner to be awarded a Good Dog tag and her parents (Jane & Paul)
won the $50 gift certificate to Champps Restaurant!!!
When we arrived to the mainland everyone was
saying their good-byes and then SPLAT!!! We all looked around to see
what dog had the energy to fling so much drool. After a moment
of silence, the mainland was shaking from all the laughter of what just
transpired... a bird (which must have been the size of a Newf) dropped
doo-doo all over Judy and Rufus. Nothing like white splatter all
over a black Newf (lol)!!!
Totally exhausted from a fun-filled day, we
know we did our job as the Newfs were sacked out for the remainder of the
night (along with all of us)!!! So much so, that we couldn't even
make it to Goofy Golf. We all ordered in and called it an early
night. I was so exhausted that I dumped a bottle of hotel shampoo
into the Jacuzzi cause I was too tired to wash (lol).

A last minute notice that the Baha Men were
performing at Shooters on the Water in the Flats didn't give people much
time to put it in their schedule. But a few of us showed up and had a
great time. Naturally, Pebbles ran up on stage while they were singing
"Who Let the Dogs Out". I got the band members to autograph
our Newf Rescue Drool Towel as well!
"It's going to be so much fun to
perform this album live. I think people are going to be dancing on their
seats at shows."Although "Who Let The Dogs Out" looks to be
the album that makes Baha Men stars in the in the U.S., it's worth noting
that they've had 5 platinum albums in Japan, where they are already a major
concert attraction. Additionally, they served as opening act for Hanson on
the Tulsa teens' 1998 U.S. tour, playing such venues as the Hollywood Bowl
and Red Rocks.

St. Patrick's Day Parade
Downtown Cleveland
|
This may sound repetitive,
but... as usual, Newf Neighborhood lucked out with the weather once
again!!!! What a fabulous turnout of neighbors and newfs. And
talk about turnout... over 325,000 spectators. Did you know that
Cleveland's St. Patrick's Day Parade is one of the largest parades in the
country? Yes it is! We were just in awe at all the people there,
I am really having a difficult time find the right word to describe
it!! Without fail, there were so many times we heard the crowd
yelling, "Who Let The Dogs Out? Ruf, Ruf, Ruf, Ruf", and
"What kind of dogs are those"? The entire parade was
televised by Adelphia and the cameras spent quite a deal of time on our
green-tailed newfies, especially the ones carting, and the double-team
carting.

Mill Stream Run

Our first gathering of the new
year!! And as usual, Newf Neighborhood was very lucky in the weather
department with sunshine galore! The neighbors enjoyed the smell
of wood burning fire places, live music, and the screams of people on the toboggan
chutes!! The newfies were a bit surprised that a dog was bigger than
them (we didn't tell them it was a reindeer-lol). Well, this
gathering's "puppy" is Abbey who proudly owns Dan! Our last
"puppy" was Sam, who now at 10 months old is unbelievelably
HUGE!! Then it was off to the Marriott for lunch/dinner. We were
all very pleased with the surprise of personalized menu's and our newfies
certainly enjoyed not having to sit in our vehicles while we were in a
"restaurant", but enjoy us tableside. The food was fabulous with
Prime Rib, Salmon, Grilled Chicken, Pasta, mashed potatoes, veggies, salad,
bread, butter, chocolate mousse with large scrumptious blackberries and
blueberries for dessert . And, to top it off, as we were leaving the
hotel we met a couple from Newfoundland in the hotel lobby.
