Christmas Parade

|
Very chilly, but unbelievably the sun came out
just in time to start the parade. There were 40+ MPH wind gusts and
the floats had to cancel, but NN being the troopers they are showed up in
holiday attire and holiday spirit! Following the parade we had our
annual Christmas luncheon at the Marriott (of course our newfies were
welcome) and warmed up with a special holiday menu and scrumptious desserts!

Wooly Bear
Parade & Festival
Oct '03
|
What a perfect day for the
31st Annual Woollybear Parade, mid-50s and sunny! Thousands
come from far and wide to help Dick Goddard salute the fuzzy caterpillar,
whose stripes indicate the severity of the coming winter. Woollybear
look-alike contests for kids as well as pets, Woollybear races, and of
course, the Grand Parade, are just some of the highlights of this special
day. It was
truly a fun parade mc'd by none other than Dick GoddardWith all the newfs wearing orange boa feathers, Vermillion will be
seeing feathers flying around their town for weeks on end. We received
a trophy again this year dedicated to "Man's Best Friend".
The wise ol' woollybear descends upon Vermilion for the largest single-day
festival in Ohio!

Island
Hopping Cruise
June '03
|
What a
wonderful time (despite Gina getting sea-sick), and the fabulous weather
we had!!! 29 people and 19 newfs from several weeks old in
a basket to 10 years young. I'm not sure who was driving the
golf carts, the newfies or the people they owned. We all made so
many new(f)riends who traveled quite a distance to join in this years
Island Hopping Cruise, from Kentucky to California. I hope everyone
had an opportunity to see Ford's ship that has been converted into a house
stuck in the cliffs off the shores of Lake Erie, now that's a house I'm
sure anyone would love to have! A few of the neighbors got enough
nerve up to go parasailing and what a smile on their faces!! A few
burnt noses and faces looked like raccoons for the people, but the newfs
stayed cool either napping in the park, taking a dip in the lake or
cruising in a canopied golf cart. Newfies were adorned with hawaiian
leis and some with very fashionable sunglasses or mardi-gras beads.
One of the several 4-month old newfs even lost a baby tooth while we had
our poolside party Saturday night jammin' with the jukebox. The Sandusky
Register had an article entitled, "A Whole Lotta' Dog" that
brought the local people to greet Newf Neighborhood at the dock before and
after boarding, at Kelley's Island, at Put-In-Bay Island and even at
Damon's Friday night for dinner. Dinner was a long event but live
music had some of the neighbors showing off their dance talents!
Most everyone had indulged in the fantastic seafood at the Boardwalk
Restaurant including their famous lobster bisque in a bread bowl, fresh
shrimp, crab legs and the split chickens being grilled on a 20' outdoor
pit across from the park. No one left hungry, that's for sure!
And oh those delicious fruit smoothies, hmmm... I could go for one of
those strawberry/banana ones with whipped cream topping <vbg>!
Many of the neighbors inquired about extending the outing for an
additional day next year while others hinted about renting cottages on the
island. With great ideas like this it's bound to get better every
year!

Fish
Festival
Vermilon
June 15th
|
What an absolutely gorgeous day for a parade!
The sky was beautiful and there was a nice breeze coming off of the
lake. Unfortunately, we did not bring a trophy home :( Some of the
trophies went to 1) most patriotic (a girls baton unit whose uniforms were
red, white and blue), 2) best motorcycle unit, 3) best clown, 4) best baton
unit, 5) best of parade (taken by Lorain firefighters), 6) most
grandchildren, etc. The last one was actually called something else, but
they made a big ordeal of him having the most grandchildren by having 25. As
you can see by the categories there wasn't many categories we could have
placed in.

Blossom
Parade in Chagrin Falls
May 25th
|
The crowd was just enormous with a
record-setting 40,000+ in attendance. The weather was perfect for a
parade in the low 60s and mostly sunny. Then off to Yours Truly
Restaurant on their patio for lunch and resting our weary feet. And of
course we had to visit the famous Popcorn Shop overlooking the falls for ice
cream. Then off to the carnival with the kids running from
ride-to-ride while we sat comfortably in the Gazebo munching on Elephant
Ears and enjoying the many hugs and belly rubs you come to expect from
these events.

Akron
Aero's Pet Day at Canal Park
April 13th
|
Fans make it a dog day afternoon
at Canal Park. They came in all sizes, plenty of colors and with lots
of bark. Bring Your Pet Day at Canal
Park proved a popular promotion Sunday, sponsored by the Humane Society of
Greater Akron.
You could hear them before the game, sticking
their heads out of car windows barking as their owners drove by looking for
a place to park. As dog-loving fans lined up by the hundreds to get in the
gates, some of the pets quietly made friends, while others just barked as if
in a chorus.
55 degrees and sunny, and 2
seats per person (had to make room for the newfs to stretch out) <vbg>!
We had our pictures taken with some of the ball players and the Akron
Alliance Newspaper just had to get some close up shots of the newfs standing on their
hind legs so the kids could reach them for a pat on the head. And some
of the neighbors got to meet Orbit, the Aeros' mascot (meow!).

St.
Patrick's Day Parade
Youngstown, OH
March 17th
|
Once again, we had great weather,
67 degrees and sunny! Newf
Neighborhood joined up with the
Penn-Ohio Newfoundland Club having a grand time
marching to the beat of "Who Let The Dogs Out" and "Atomic
Dog". As usual, the newfies magnetically attracted every child of
every age. The puppies were a definite hit!! Afterwards, we were
spoiled rotten at the Salty Grogg Restaurant on the large, awning-covered
deck. Dino and Pebs were amongst some very happy newfs to have a lean
ground burger cooked to order and served on paper plates, while us humans
listened to the juke box with our feet up and enjoyed the entertainment of
others playing bocce ball.
